AnkerMake M5C Printhead Cable Replacement Guide

If you're experiencing issues in the printhead such as no extruder motor movement or hotend temperature reading, replacing the USB-C printhead cable may resolve the problem. Follow these steps carefully.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Equipment:

  • Flathead screwdriver, guitar pick, or similiar to leverage open the plastic housing
  • Allen key set (hex)
  • Replacement USB-C printhead cable
  • Tweezers (optional, for handling small parts)
  • New printhead cable

Step 1: Remove the Cable from the Printhead

  1. Power down the machine and remove the powercable, then locate the printhead connection – This is where the USB-C cable attaches to the printhead.
  2. Remove the two hex screws securing the cable to the printhead. (See Image Below)
  3. Gently detach the cable from the printhead port.

Step 2: Remove the Push-Fit Plastic Housing

  1. Carefully pop off the plastic housing that secures the adapter PCB board inside.
  2. Ensure the adapter PCB board remains undamaged while removing the plastic housing. (See Image [Y])

Step 3: Detach the Cable from the Second Housing

  1. Remove the two hex screws holding the printhead cable to the second plastic housing. (See Image [Z])
  2. Unscrew the two screws that secure the second plastic housing itself. This will allow access to the internal cable connectors.

Step 4: Disconnect the Cable

  1. Remove the plastic housing completely, exposing the cable connectors.
  2. Carefully unplug the cable from the connectors. (See Image [A])

Step 5: Install the New USB-C Cable

Now, repeat all of the above steps in reverse:

  1. Connect the new cable to the connectors.
  2. Reinstall the plastic housing and secure it with the two screws.
  3. Reattach the cable to the second housing and tighten the screws.
  4. Place the adapter PCB board back in place and secure the push-fit plastic housing.
  5. Reconnect the printhead cable to the printhead and secure it with the two screws.

Note: When the cable exits the housing it does a very sharp 90 degree bend which must be positioned in a certain way to fit flush, be gentle while manipulating the cable as it could cause damage.

Troubleshooting

  • If replacing the printhead USB-C printhead cable does notresolve the issue, the problem may be:
    • A faulty cable from the adapter board to the mainboard (this should be the next replacement step).
    • A defective PCB board that needs replacement.
  • Contact the retailer the machine was purchased from for more support and information.
